For first years, our Academic Support Officers, Aris and Kit, will be running an MA141 Analysis 1 revision lecture in Week 10 to help you prepare for your Analysis 1 exam in January. Please fill in this form to specify which topics you’d like to see covered.

Regular Events Schedule

On Tuesday (26th), we are running Coffee and Cake, our weekly welfare event, from 1200 to 1300, in MB0.08. Drop in to get a hot drink and some food, and relax with others in an informal and friendly environment.

On Wednesday (27th), we will be running Maths Café in the UG Workroom as always, from 1300 to 1500. As usual, we will be bringing some food for you to enjoy.

If you have any academic questions, our academic support officers (and many other attendees) will be happy to help. Also feel free to ask any questions about LaTeX.

Also on Wednesday (27th), we will be running a circle with the theme Nativity from 1900 in the Fusion Sports Bar. No ticket is required to attend the circle, but one will be required if you want to attend POP! afterwards.

On Thursday (28th), we have our regularly scheduled WMS Talk titled Turán Systems, with guest speaker Professor Oleg Pikhurko, in MS.04, starting at 1800.

Abstract:

A Turán \((s,r)\)-system is an \(r\)-graph \(G\) in which every set of \(s\) vertices contains at least one edge, and the Turán density \(t(s,r)\) is the asymptotically smallest edge density of such \(G\). The question of estimating this function received a lot of attention since it was first raised by Turán in 1941. I will give an overview of this area, including some new upper bounds on \(t(s,r)\) when \(r\) tends to infinity.
